چکیده

In this paper, we perform a theoretical study of processes that demonstrates additional time delay obtained by remodeling Brillouin gain spectrum, and we also study the main influence factors on pulse time delay and broadening, as well as analyze the ways which increases the delay, and further suppresses pulse broadening. The results show that by remodeling Brillouin gain spectrum, one obtains 25% delay improvement over the single intrinsic Brillouin gain spectrum; by deriving the expression of broadening factor, one finds that the increase of intrinsic SBS resonance linewidth leads to the decrease of the broadening quantity which corresponds to the maximum delay. Moreover, the increase of the peak power of absorption spectrum further leads to an increase of pulse delay. When the normalized frequency shift is below a certain value, probe pulse can be compressed; when the second-order gain is positive, pulse will be compressed; when the second-order gain is negative, pulse will become broad.

Optimal pump profile designs for broadband SBS slow-light systems.

We describe a methodology for designing the optimal gain profiles for gain-based, tunable, broadband, slow-light pulse delay devices based on stimulated Brillouin scattering. Optimal gain profiles are obtained under system constraints such as distortion, total pump power, and maximum gain. The delay performance of three candidate systems: Gaussian noise pump broadened (GNPB), optimal gain-only,...

SBS Based Slow-Light Performance Comparison of 10-Gb/s NRZ, PSBT and DPSK Signals

We compare system performances of 10-Gb/s NRZ, PSBT and DPSK signals transmitted in SBS based slow-light delay line. The maximum delay-time of 81ps with error-free operation has been obtained by directly demodulating the DPSK signal through SBS effect. Introduction In recent years, slow-light has attracted extensive interest owing to its potential applications from quantum computing to optical ...

Nearly transparent SBS slow light in an optical fiber.

Slow-light delay via stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) in optical fibers is usually achieved with delay-dependent amplification that degrades system performance. To address this problem, we propose a SBS slow-light method that makes use of two widely separated anti-Stokes absorption resonances, and achieve nearly transparent slow light in an optical fiber. We demonstrate the method in a hig...

Stimulated Brillouin scattering slow light in optical fibers [Invited]

Stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) has become a favorable underlying mechanism in many demonstrations of all-optical variable delay in standard fibers, often referred to as slow and fast light. Over 100 journal papers and numerous conference sessions have been dedicated to SBS slow light since 2005. In this paper, recent research in this area is reviewed. Following a short introduction to th...
